Samantha and Jared’s patriotic Memorial Day wedding showcased local vendors and featured a pop of color with a vibrant red and navy palette.
The couple officially married in a courthouse wedding in August 2016, only a month after getting engaged. “It was very intimate,” the bride said of the ceremony. “We just had our direct families with us for the day. The decision was hard for me at first because I always dreamed about having a formal wedding and reception. However, it really was the best thing we could do, and we immediately started planning for our ‘big reception’ in May 2017.”
The bride and groom selected a color palette to complement Jared’s uniform. “Jared was wearing his dress uniform and the other groomsmen were in gray, so I wanted something that went well with both of those,” Samantha explained. “The red was a great way for the colors to pop!”
Local vendors brought a unique and personal touch to the celebration. The couple worked exclusively with small businesses, and the photographer and DJ were friends of the bride’s mother. “Our baker was also a family friend who was just starting out,” the bride shared. “She did an awesome job of incorporating the colors and giving us exactly what we wanted. It really was great because we saved a lot of money and were still working with amazing people.”
What was your favorite part of your big day?
Definitely the reception! We loved socializing with our friends and family we hadn’t seen in a while. Being able to enjoy dancing, eating, and spending time with our favorite people is something we will never forget.
How did your husband propose?
My husband proposed at Bull Run Mountain in Virginia. We love hiking and have done it may times before, and while we were hiking that morning he proposed. It was very simple and private, just the way we wanted. A great day we will never forget!
What’s your advice to other military brides?
Be patient! It can be difficult with the military, and finding dates/times that work is essential. It was hard being far away (we were in Alabama while my family and the wedding were in Pennsylvania), but we managed the distance by talking daily with our family about our plans and what needed to be done.
